The marina is attractive with its shops, cafes and restaurants. The hall overlooks the harbor. The library is midway between the church and the port. The town has a school of the sea and a diving school. Several scenes from the movie Triplex (1991) with Patrick Chester was shot on the port.

Cap Ferrat Lighthouse
This has always been considered an important point for navigation in the vicinity of the coast of Nice. A fire tower occupies the site of the current beacon to signal the presence of Cap Ferrat to Mariners. The Sardinians built a lighthouse in 1827, this work was destroyed by the German army in 1944. The current lighthouse was rebuilt between 1949 and 1951 by the Highways Department. It stands 71 meters has a range of about 45 km. Cape Ferrat also has a semaphore. It was built in 1862 by decision of Napoleon III, who wanted to establish a chain of transmission on the coast. It is now under the control of the Navy. Its current tasks include the regulation of maritime traffic, but also the monitoring of fires on the coast.

Economy

Location
Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat is located on the Riviera, between Nice and Monaco, bordering the Mediterranean Sea. The territory of the municipality lies between Villefranche-sur-Mer and Beaulieu-sur-Mer and includes the entire peninsula of Cap Ferrat and, on the east coast of the latter, the Pointe Saint-Hospice.

Transport
There is a regular bus service to and from destination Beaulieu-sur-Mer and Nice serving the Peninsula. The main station is located at Beaulieu, to 2 km. This station served by a regular service most towns along the Riviera, from Marseilles to Ventimiglia. The nearest airport is Nice Côte d'Azur, 14 km away.

Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild
In 1883 the Baroness Béatrice de Rothschild, wife Millardair Maurice Ephrussi, and in 1905 acquired seven acres of land on the top of Cap Ferrat. Here they built lavish and luxurious palaces bringing together all the decorative elements of the fifteenth century to the nineteenth century that they had gathered during their travels. Villa Ile de France (or Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild), gardens and art collections were bequeathed to the Academy of Fine Arts of the Institut de France in 1934. The villa was opened to the public in 1937. Several sponsors including the Academy of Fine Arts, the General Council of the Alpes-Maritimes and the Association of Friends of the Villa ensures the development of the villa and gardens.

The botanical garden of the Cedars
Formerly the property of King Leopold I of Belgium, the garden contains a large collection of plant species. The house now owned by Marnier-Lapostolle, are grown some plants that are components of the Grand Marnier.

The chapel of Saint-Hospice
Located on the edge of la pointe de Saint-Hospice, the chapel was built in the seventeenth century on the ruins of the tower that housed St. Hospice. A bronze statue of the Virgin, 11 feet high, adjacent to the chapel.

The Zoo
It has kept Panthers since April 2005 and a wide variety of botanical species. It is modern and advanced treatment of animals. It is open all year round.

Le sentier des douaniers
Several trails crisscross the Cap Ferrat, one of them, the sentier des douaniers (customs footpath), toured the course by the seaside. This route, taking some steep parths, was popular with smugglers and traffickers, but also customs officers, hence its name.

History
Anao formerly the site of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat is initially occupied by the Ligurians, then by the Lombards in 575. The reclusive Saint-Hospice occupies a tower on the east side of the peninsula. In the eighth century, the Saracens conquered the site and they were to be dislodged only in the eleventh century. In 1388, during the retraction of the County of Nice, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat back to the Duchy of Savoy. The site is strengthened protectorate Savoy, in 1561, during the reign of Duke Emmanuel Philibert of Savoy, Fort Saint-Hospice is built. It will be taken and destroyed in 1706 by the Duke of Berwick, on the occasion of the taking of Nice by France. Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat passes several times under French occupation between 1720 and 1820 and is permanently attached to France in 1860 with the entire County of Nice. Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat is administratively part of the town of Villefranche-sur-Mer until 1904. Today, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat is one of the main residential areas of the Côte d'Azur, with many luxurious properties.
